What kind of overlaps exist between the streams and why are they more of a modern phenomenon.
Four examples where you’d see a direct overlap are –
- Psychology: Statistics for Psychology introduces the concept of calculations of descriptive statistics including deviation and regression. Cognitive Neuroscience introduces the concepts of neural underpinnings for memory, perception, and emotion are some examples.
- Political Sciences: Inferential Statistics for the Social and Policy Sciences is a mandatory course in political science classrooms. This is a direct use and application of maths and statistics in a political science classroom.
- History: History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine is an exploration of the development of philosophical ideas in science and medicine and that is part of what goes as a standard curriculum in teaching history.
- Economics: Game Theory introduction is rational decision-making in strategic situations where the optimal decision for one player depends upon the strategies of others. This is an introductory course using probability for pricing strategies, market-entry, etc.
Creative application and use of core sciences and math are now more of a norm than it actually is an option when learning humanities. When someone suggests an irrevocable choice has to be made, they are absolutely wrong.
